This past week has been very eventful for Team Vegas! Our team held a focus group with local AARP members and participated in this year’s Educode event. We also have our groundbreaking event coming up!
The AARP focus group centered around sharing our design, functionality, and automation systems. We presented an overview of the US Department of Energy Solar Decathlon competition. Our team then gave a thorough presentation of the design concept and unique features. Q&A and a Virtual Reality Demo followed the presentation. The audience asked some of the best questions we’ve had thus far! Questions ranged from basic functionality, to advanced mechanical and electrical discussions.
The group brainstormed on features they most enjoyed in a home, and how the team can integrate those features into our design concept. This event was critical to the team, as it helped us develop an understanding of our target market. The needs of the target market will help Team Vegas solidify the home’s key design decisions. These decisions are all compiled for the Solar Decathlon’s Market Potential contest.
The Southern Nevada International Code Council recently awarded the team $25,000 towards the project. SNICC also invited the team to take part at this year’s Educode event. Educode is a 5-day event dedicated to conducting specialized code courses for industry professionals. The team had a booth with models, presentation boards, and a VR demo of the home’s design. Professionals were very impressed by our work!
This Friday, March 31st, the team will be conducting a Ground Breaking ceremony to kickoff construction! The ceremony will take place at the home’s construction site on UNLV’s Paradise Campus.
A big thanks to Southern Nevada ICC and AARP Nevada for their contributions to the team! Stay tuned for our Ground Breaking event this Friday. Make sure to follow our progress as we move towards to construction.
