Team Las Vegas takes on Earth Day

Posted on — By Valentina Alayon

It’s been another busy week here with Team Las Vegas. As April comes to an end, the team has continued to work hard on our D7 submittal. The team has now finalized a dinner menu and final team uniform. We have booked all of our rooms.

Construction Update

This week has been all about steel. This weekend the team completed the foundation for the mechanical pod. It will house our solar thermal collectors to provide year-round domestic hot water.

Earth Day

April 22nd was Earth Day and this year our team decided to take part in two unique ways.

Greenfest 2017

This year Greenfest was held at Downtown Summerlin. Consisting of everything from healthy food, a electric car parade, and many solar energy booths, it was our honor to have a table to speak out our project. It is always invigorating to be able to speak with others that are as passionate about solar design as we are. Thank you to everyone that stopped by and spoke with our team. And a special thank you to everyone who purchased a Team Las Vegas t-shirt.

March for Science

Many of our team members, also attended the March for Science. As an event that brings together members of the community to promote STEM is fantastic. Students from our team attended encouraging funding for STEM education.

Jonathan Sorola, Ashna Ayub and Valentina Alayon worked the booth

The next couple of weeks mark the end of the spring semester. Our members will be balancing their regular workload, construction and studying for finals. That’s what being a Solar Decathlete is all about!
